Ken Paxton Appeal Rejected

This morning the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals rejected Attorney General Ken Paxton’s appeal of his felony criminal fraud charges, and Paxton’s legal team has announced they will file for a rehearing. Lone Star Project Director Matt Angle released the following statement:

“For two years Ken Paxton has been engaged in double-talk and deception to avoid being held accountable for his crimes.

“This morning’s news that the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has rejected Ken Paxton’s last ditch effort to appeal his criminal felony fraud charges should surprise no one. Yet, in a desperate move, Paxton announced he will continue to drag out his case to avoid answering questions about his crimes.

“Paxton knows he is in deep legal trouble, so he continues to use every legal maneuver to duck and dodge a potential jail sentence and avoid taking responsibility for his actions. Now that he will likely be forced to stand trial, Paxton will have to explain why he thinks he’s above the law that he’s taken an oath to protect.

“For Ken Paxton to stand trial for criminal felony crimes and at the same time serve as the state’s top law enforcement officer is simply disgraceful.

“It’s past time for Ken Paxton to step down as Texas’ Attorney General and focus on his own serious legal issues. Now that Paxton will likely stand trial, it’s also time for Republican leaders like Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick to call on him to step down.”
