Greg Abbott is about the last guy Texans should trust on matters of personal privacy. In fact, if Abbott was applying for a privacy security position at any credible company or agency, we doubt he would even be considered.
These would be the most notable findings from a background check on Abbott’s security credentials:
- Exposed the Social Security numbers of over 6 million Texans putting them at risk of potential identity theft.
- Sent agents, without warrant or cause, to peep into the bathroom window of an elderly Texas woman while she was showering.
- Issued an opinion calling on the identities of victims of child abuse to be exposed in arrest warrant affidavits, even while the local City Attorney fought to protect their privacy. Abbott relented only under the threat of State Supreme Court action.
For the same reasons we wouldn’t hire Tom DeLay to teach ethics or trust our retirement savings to Bernie Madoff, Texans shouldn’t put the protection of our personal privacy in the hands of Greg Abbott.
