Earlier today, Democratic congressional leaders met with Donald Trump to discuss alternatives to avoid a destructive government shutdown. Rather than discuss the issue in good faith with the aim to find compromise, Trump insisted that he will force a shutdown unless his demands are met.
It is apparent that good faith negotiations with Donald Trump are simply not possible. Texas Senator John Cornyn is the third ranking Member of the U.S. Senate and in position to avoid a Trump shutdown and help direct the U.S. Senate to a reasonable middle-ground.
