“Members like John Zerwas don’t walk away from the legislature if they see good times ahead. They do it when their party and their leadership is failing.
“Texas Republican elected officials have been given a poisonous choice: they either have to stand on the fringe of their party with no impact on policy or they have to surrender to Trump party Republican divisiveness that demeans public service itself.
“Rep. Zerwas did the right thing by stepping away. I won’t be surprised if other Republicans make the same choice.”
