Statement of Lone Star Project Director Matt Angle on Texas AG Ken Paxton’s Failure to Secure a Pardon from Donald Trump
No pardon for Ken Paxton.
While our nation and the civilized world sighs in relief with the end of Donald Trump’s presidency, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is left in the lurch with a federal investigation his current reality and a likely federal indictment his near future.
Paxton has been spending months and a lot of Texas tax dollars kissing up to Donald Trump with the hope to be given a pardon and a get-out-of-jail-for-free card for federal bribery and other likely crimes. It’s not happening. Paxton will remain under federal investigation.
The facts as reported are damning. A half dozen of Paxton’s own AG staff resigned in protest, reporting that he has given special treatment to a major donor in return for financial support and help in limiting the fallout from an illicit affair.
Paxton’s sordid efforts to win Trump’s favor and get a pardon highlight his corrupt nature. Paxton has been under state criminal indictment for over five years for felony swindling. The bribery allegations and related crimes may result in additional state charges.
If ever any person deserved to be double-crossed by Donald Trump, it’s Ken Paxton. The only justice Ken should find is in a jail cell.
