In HD101, no Republican filed for the seat, so the Republican ballot will be blank in November. In CD33, while two Republicans have filed, there is a better chance that Rick Perry moves to Massachusetts and enrolls in Romneycare than a Republican gets elected in the new north Texas Congressional District.

Note to voters and donors
So, voters in CD33 and HD101, like it or not you have to decide now. Donors everywhere, like it or not, if you want your money to matter in these new districts, give now. New House District 101
New House District 101 is located in far eastern Tarrant County and includes parts of Arlington and Grand Prairie. It was drawn by the Republican Legislature by combining the most Democratic neighborhoods in old HD93 and old HD96. By packing Democrats into the new district, Republicans were able to make both new HD93 and new HD96 safe for Republicans, at least for the next couple of election cycles. Who’s running?
To no one’s surprise, the leading Democratic candidates in new HD101 are Chris Turner who represented old HD96 for two years and Paula Pierson who represented old HD93 for four years. Newcomer Dr. Vickie Barnett is also running. The district is so overwhelmingly Democratic that no Republican candidate even bothered to file.

New Congressional District 33
ongressional District 33 is the only truly new minority opportunity congressional district in the court-ordered congressional plan. Other newly drawn minority districts simply offset the elimination of minority districts that already existed under the old map.

CD33 is anchored by minority neighborhoods in the City of Fort Worth and then extends eastward through parts of Arlington, Grand Prairie, South Irving and the north Oak Cliff neighborhoods in Dallas. While its population is well over 60 percent Hispanic, after accounting for voters’ age and eligibility, the district reveals itself as a true Democratic coalition district. The citizen voting age population is 39 percent Hispanic, 25 percent African American and 36 percent Anglo/Asian and other. An examination of the voter rolls and voter history show African Americans make up a plurality of likely voters. President Obama and all statewide Democrats over the past decade carried the district easily.
Who’s running in CD33?
11 Democratic candidates filed in the new district; however, most observers believe that the two lead candidates who will meet in a run-off are State Representative Marc Veasey and Dallas attorney Domingo Garcia. Other notable candidates in the race include former Dallas City Councilman Steve Salazar, Tarrant County Justice of the Peace Manuel Valdez and former Fort Worth City Councilwoman Kathleen Hicks.
