Randy Weber has proven to be a weaker candidate than expected, and Nick Lampson has run a smart and efficient campaign that makes the most of his natural appeal to mainstream, fair-minded conservative voters.

In the most recent campaign finance reports, Lampson had more than $422,000 cash on hand compared to Weber’s $55,000, which we now know was boosted by illegal contributions. Moreover, all of the major newspapers (Houston Chronicle, Beaumont Enterprise, Galveston County Daily News) in the District have now endorsed Nick Lampson.

Texas CD14 is clearly in play, and the biggest liability for Republicans is the GOP nominee himself, Randy Weber. With an FEC complaint to contend with and problems like those detailed in a recent Houston Chronicle story, Weber is giving conservative voters many good reasons to opt for Nick Lampson.
