We are already stuck with Donald Trump using insults and inciting hate to cover for a corrupt presidency. Texans shouldn’t tolerate a House Speaker with the same divisive nature and broken character as Donald Trump.

“The crude language and likely illegal actions of Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen revealed today on audio tape can’t be passed over or shrugged off. We are already stuck with Donald Trump using insults and inciting hate to cover for a corrupt presidency. Texans shouldn’t tolerate a House Speaker with the same divisive nature and broken character as Donald Trump.

“Bonnen’s homophobia and use of sexist terms reveal more than crude behavior: it exposes a corrupt nature. The meeting in Bonnen’s official office within our State Capitol to arrange an exchange of media credentials in return for exacting revenge on political enemies is clearly unethical and likely illegal. It shows that Dennis Bonnen is willing to break the law to get what he wants.

“Just like Donald Trump, Dennis Bonnen presents a question for other Republican officeholders in Texas. Will they find the character and courage to disavow and separate from a crude and corrupt Speaker, or will they duck, dodge and find excuses to cover for another vile and failed Republican leader.”
