With backing from Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick & MAGA forces in Harris County, Hegar put the weight and credibility of his office behind the false claim that county constable funding had been cut. Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee embarrassed the MAGA State leaders by revealing the truth – the Democratic-led Commissioners Court increased law enforcement funding in Harris. And today, Hegar was forced to concede as much in a letter to the Commissioners Court.
It’s unclear whether Glenn Hegar learned any lesson after making such a blatantly false claim and then being called on it. But we can be sure that Abbott, Patrick, and House Speaker Dade Phelan have not. Texas Republican leaders across the board have abandoned mainstream for MAGA and commonsense for Q-Anon.”
