Texas families are working harder than ever – but still finding it harder than ever to get ahead. It’s because they are pitted against a rigged system designed to benefit corrupt State and national Republicans working to enrich themselves while working for greedy billionaires and corporate backers.
It’s a product of nearly 30 years of one-party Republican control. All of them – Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, Ken Paxton, congressional Republicans, along with sold-out extremists running in legislative and local offices – have chosen corrupt self-interest and abandoned middle-class Texans.
In our democracy, elections are the remedy to remove leaders who betray and fail us. The entrenched Republicans in charge in Texas won’t change on their own. They must be changed. We can no longer count on reasoned arguments, calm complaints, or even formal legal action to restore leaders who care more about people than profiting from corruption. It requires our vote.
Over the next eight weeks, the Lone Star Project will work with Texas Democratic candidates and other leaders to inform voters and to support the hard-nosed and practical work required to win elections. We will post videos, mail pieces, voter lists, and other communication designed to inform, unite, and mobilize voters.
