Will Greg Abbott condemn and withdraw support from Republican State House candidate, David Flores, after he used a vile racial slur during a DWI arrest?

Republican Texas State House District 144 (Houston/Pasadena) candidate, David Flores, was a long shot, bottom-of-the-barrel candidate from the outset. When he filed for office last fall, Flores already had a record of repeated run-ins with the law that included assault, theft, and evading arrest.
But none of that stopped Greg Abbott eagerly endorsing Flores. Abbott posted his endorsement prominently and gave Flores the green light to lean into it. And Flores did just that. Abbott’s endorsement is the centerpiece of Flores’ campaign. It’s featured on his website homepage and is the first listing on Flores’ endorsement page.
Flores used Abbott’s endorsement in an attempt to avoid arrest during a DWI stop.
True to form as a colossally bad candidate, after being detained by a City of Deer Park police officer for a DWI violation in February 2026, Flores tried to talk his way out of arrest by citing his endorsement from Greg Abbott. A video of the arrest obtained by Lone Star Project from the Deer Park Police records Flores saying, “The Governor just freaking endorsed me.” It didn’t work. An extraordinarily patient and professional Deer Park police officer administered the sobriety test and then put Flores in the back of a police cruiser.
Flores cursed the police officer with vile language.
While in the back of the cruiser, apparently unaware that he was still being recorded, Flores slurs out, “f**kin pig, shitass n**ga.” Even muttered under his breath, the ugly words are delivered with menacing venom.
Now it’s about Greg Abbott, not David Flores.
Whatever remote chances David Flores had for election are extinguished. It’s not about him anymore. Now it is entirely about Greg Abbott who put his own reputation on the line by endorsing a man known to be of low character.
Will Abbott do the right thing and immediately condemn David Flores, withdraw his endorsement, and call on Flores to withdraw from the campaign?
It’s a character test for Greg Abbott that he has already failed once. Abbott failed to condemn Bo French for his racist public posts and other statements. Instead of speaking up, Abbott clammed up in fear of losing the support from the Republican hate wing French represents.
