BREAKING: Federal Court Sets Trial Date on Request to Block Texas Congressional Map

Earlier today, a Three-Judge Federal Court convening in the Western District of Texas in El Paso set trial dates to hear evidence on whether to issue an injunction blocking the use of the recently adopted Texas congressional re-redistricting map. The trial will take place in El Paso on October 1st through October 10th. A formal order from the Court is expected soon.

The Court’s action is in response to motions filed by the Brooks plaintiffs and other plaintiff groups asking that their request for a preliminary injunction stopping use of the just-passed congressional plan be ruled upon before candidate filing for the 2026 elections begins later this fall. The October dates set by the Court should meet the requested timeline.

Reacting to the Court, Brooks Plaintiff legal counsel, Chad Dunn, said, “I am pleased the Court set aside the time to consider this important case. The rights of millions of Texans hang in the balance.”

Lone Star Project Director, Matt Angle, commented also saying, “The congressional map crammed down Texans throats is a disgraceful display of cowardice by Greg Abbott and Republican legislative leaders. It intentionally and illegally undermines the voting rights of Black, Hispanic, and other minority Texas citizens in every major region of our state. Instead of defending the rights of Texans, Abbott and the others destroyed Texans’ rights on orders from Donald Trump.”
